The small print, kept small

Privacy, terms and refunds

Lantern Hollow is made and sold by Ikigai Game Studios, a UK company. This page says what we collect, what buying gets you, and how to get your money back. Questions about any of it: kai@your-ikigai.co.uk. Last updated 9 September 2026.

What we keep, and why

Privacy

We collect as little as a game with accounts and a shop can. Ikigai Game Studios is the data controller for everything below.

WHAT WE STORE

  • Account: your email address and a hashed password, held by our authentication provider (Supabase). We use it to sign you in, to send you the confirmation and password-reset emails you ask for, and to tell you about things that change how you play — a paywall date, a price change, a build that breaks saves. Nothing else, and no newsletters unless you opt in to one.
  • Mailing list: if you join it, your email address, where you signed up, the words you agreed to, and when you joined, confirmed and left. We only send to addresses that clicked the confirmation link, through our email provider (Resend), and every email has a link to leave. You can also switch it off on your account page. Leaving stops the emails straight away.
  • Purchases: when you buy the game we record which account bought it, the price and currency, and the Stripe checkout reference. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
  • In the game: if you sign in inside the game, we keep your wanderer's name and look, a count of the minutes you spend in a world, the three worlds you play in, and your arcade tokens, kits, sticker album and mixtapes, so they follow you between devices. Playing signed out keeps all of that on your own device and sends nothing.
  • Downloads: each alpha download is logged against your account key with the platform and build, so we can see which builds are in use and spot leaked keys.
  • Bug reports and ideas: what you write in the feedback form, any screenshot you attach, and your email so we can follow up. Reports go into our private issue tracker on GitHub. The public bug tracker shows the report without your email.
  • Analytics: only if you accept the cookie banner. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages and buttons matter. Decline and no analytics cookie is set. You can change your mind by clearing the site's data in your browser.

COOKIES

Signing in sets session cookies so you stay signed in — those are essential and set without asking. Your cookie-banner answer is remembered in your browser. Analytics cookies are set only after you accept.

WHO ELSE SEES IT

Supabase (accounts and data), Stripe (payments), Amazon Web Services (hosting and email), GitHub (issue tracker) and, with your consent, Google (analytics). Each processes data on our behalf under their own terms. We don't sell or share your data with anyone else.

YOUR RIGHTS

You can delete your account yourself at any time, from lanternhollowgame.com/account/delete. It erases your profile, playtime, cloud saves, download history, purchase record and any mailing list sign-up for that email from our systems straight away, and it cannot be undone. Deleting an account that owns the game forfeits the purchase, so read that page before you confirm.

You can also ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete the account by hand — email kai@your-ikigai.co.uk from the address on the account and we'll do it within 30 days. Stripe keeps its own record of any payment, which we have to leave in place for tax and accounting. If you think we've got something wrong you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

What buying gets you

Terms

Lantern Hollow is in alpha. That means it is unfinished, changes often, and will occasionally break — saves included. By playing you accept that; by buying you accept the following.

THE LICENCE

  • Buying the game (£4.99 during alpha, more later) gives your account a personal, non-transferable licence to download and play every alpha and beta build we release, and a Steam key when the game launches there. The price you pay is the price you pay — there are no further charges for later builds.
  • It covers the builds we distribute from this site: Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, plus the unsigned iOS build for those who can sideload it. Versions sold through app stores at launch are separate products.
  • Your alpha key is tied to your account. Don't share it, sell it, or use it to hand builds to other people. We may revoke keys we see leaked.
  • The free browser demo stays free and can be played without an account.

WHAT WE CAN CHANGE

Features on the roadmap are intentions, not promises; we may add, change or drop them. We may change prices for future buyers at any time — that never affects what you have already bought. If we ever have to stop development, everything already released to you stays yours.

THE BORING BITS

The game, its art, music, text and code belong to Ikigai Game Studios. Screenshots and videos of you playing are yours to share. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Nothing here limits the rights you have as a consumer under UK law.

Changed your mind?

Refunds

Email kai@your-ikigai.co.uk within 14 days of buying and we'll refund you in full, no questions asked. Use the email address on your account and, if you can, the Stripe receipt. Refunds go back to the card you paid with, and your account goes back to a free one.

After 14 days we can't promise a refund, but if the game won't run for you or you feel we've misled you about something, write anyway — we'd rather sort it out than leave you annoyed.

Ko-fi donations are gifts, not purchases, and aren't refundable through us; Ko-fi has its own process.
