Alpha v0.0.14: the Hollow Moors, 1999

The biggest update yet: a bigger world on the Hollow Moors in 1999, with moorland, a western forest, marsh pools and an abandoned railway station. Longer days, busier nights, a stalker you can kill, and menus that fit every screen.

The biggest Lantern Hollow update so far. The hollow has a place and a year now: the edge of the Hollow Moors, in 1999. The moors are their own place, loosely drawn from the high country of northern England but with their own villages, their own weather and their own stories, which the lore page has started to collect.

A bigger world

The map is a third wider, and every step up in your fire opens up about twice as much ground. New worlds have open moorland, a dense forest to the west, and marsh pools to the south with reeds and one clear way across. A worn trail leads out from camp.

The old station

North-east of camp there's a railway station nobody has used in years: rails, a platform, rusted shelters with half their roofs gone, and a faded sign. There's a chest on the platform, and it's worth the walk.

Longer days, busier nights

A full day now lasts six minutes: four of daylight and two of night. Logs, fuel and torches burn longer, and you get hungry more slowly, so there's time to go somewhere and come back. After dark, gloomlings keep finding you, more every night you last, and they spot you from further off when you're out of the light. The fire is still safe, and night seven is still the siege.

Worth the walk

Finds and chests get better the further the fire reaches: the bow is at the station, and the best axe, the lantern, the sword and the bigger backpack are further out. Each world keeps its own Found list now, shared with everyone at the fire. And the stalker can finally be killed. It hits hard and takes a lot of killing, but it goes down.

Every screen

The title fits itself to any window, and the menus, the HUD and the pause screens adapt to phones, tablets and wide monitors. There's a new touch toolbar in the corner, finer menu and HUD sizes, and a larger default HUD.

The full list is in the changelog, the new screenshots are on the screenshots page, and the build is waiting on your download page. Your existing worlds carry over; start a new one to see the moors. The free alpha still closes on Monday 21 September. £4.99 keeps every build coming after that.
